Govt confirms PSD DG's termination of service

KUALA LUMPUR: The government today confirmed that it had terminated the services of Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah's as the Public Service Department (PSD) director-general.

The termination of service took effect yesterday.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, in a statement today, said the action was taken in accordance with the Civil Servants Regulation 49(3) (Conduct and Discipline) 1993, and that Mohd Shafiq was retired according to Section 10(5)(d) Pension Act 1980.

"The decision was made after exhausting all procedures to protect the public interest, and was studied by the Attorney-General's Department," he said in a statement today.

The statement confirms a letter on Mohd Shafiq's sacking, which had gone viral last night.

The sacking comes barely 10 months after Shafiq was appointed as the PSD director-general on Feb 10 this year.

Shafiq had courted controversy in August after an immigration officer complained that the former had berated him in public. A high-level committee was later formed to carry out an investigation.
