Govt mulls digital social service one-stop centre [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is mulling setting up a digital platform for social services that integrates all government, non-governmental organisations and the private sector as a one-stop centre.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the people would, through this centre, have access to mental health support, welfare and employment and educational opportunities.

"It would utilise artificial intelligence-based assistance for service matching," he said when launching the National Social Policy 2030 at the World Trade Centre today.

Zahid, who is National Social Council chairman, said the OSC was one of the proposed measures to address social issues more effectively following the increasingly complex digital world.

Secondly, he said, the establishment of community-based technology hubs could serve as digital literacy training centres and social entrepreneurship incubators to collaboratively address social issues such as educational inequality, environmental sustainability, and rural healthcare.

"Thirdly, (we have a need to) incorporate mental health into the workplace through the implementation of Mental Health Certification, including support policies like flexible working hours, counselling services, and stress management training.

"This can be further enhanced with mobile counselling services, where licensed counsellors provide immediate support via video calls or chat, ensuring easier access for those in need."

Fourth, data-driven crime prevention could be achieved by utilising data analytics to proactively detect and predict threats such as cyberbullying and online fraud, said Zahid.

The fifth proposal, he added, involves media-based interventions, through enhancing television content to promote positive values, educate the public on social issues, and develop awareness campaigns focused on humanity.

"I believe that through television and radio programmes, we can nurture a better mindset and spirit within society."

Zahid said strategic measures were needed to address the alarming cases of social problems and crimes, some of which are committed online, including scams and cyberbullying.
