Batang Kali-Genting Hulu Selangor stretch closed to all vehicles following landslide tragedy

KUALA LUMPUR: The Batang Kali-Genting Hulu Selangor stretch, which was struck by a pre-dawn landslide today, has been closed to vehicles.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the landslide involved a 300-metre-long by 70-metre high area.

He advised motorists to use Jalan Batang Kali, Jalan Ulu-Yam Batu Caves, Gombak, Karak Highway, and Genting Highlands as alternative travel routes for the time being.

He added that checks and a visual inspection found that the affected area, involving parts of the affected Batang Kali-Genting Hulu Selangor stretch which comes under JKR Selangor's supervision, covered a five-metre stretch.

"Based on initial checks, it was found that there were no open cracks on the surface of the road surface.

"PWD (Public Works Department) and various agencies are actively carrying out search and rescue missions to extricate victims from the scene.

"PWD's Slope Engineering Branch forensic team has also been at the location to conduct further investigation," he said.

The pre-dawn landslide at the Father's Organic Farm campsite near Jalan Genting-Batang Kali has claimed at least 16 lives.
