BATANG KALI: Next-of-kin of victims who died in the landslide tragedy which hit the Father's Organic Farm campsite here will each receive RM10,000 as early compensation.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said other victims affected by in the landslide will receive RM1,000 in compassionate aid.
Anwar said the distribution of the aid will be handled by the Selangor government, non-governmental organisations and other related agencies.
"I hope the aid can be distributed tomorrow. The matter (distribution of the aid) will be better handled by the state government.
"Insyallah, I will hand over this to (Selangor) Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari)," he told reporters after visiting the search and rescue (SAR) operation centre here.
Asked if the government will set-up a special taskforce to investigate the landslide triggered by human error, Anwar said he would wait for reports from all agencies that involved in SAR.
"We are waiting for the preliminary report from Inspector-General of Police, the Fire and Rescue Department and other involved agencies.
"I do not want to jump to the gun.
"Let us wait first, scrunitise the reports before taking any action," he said.
Anwar also extended his condolences to the victims and gratitude to all the personnel involved in SAR.
"I am saddened by the tragedy that involved children and mothers.
"I want to thank the firemen over their sacrifices working under such risky condition and challenging weather," he said.
Anwar added that the SAR is still underway to look for the remaining 12 victims.
As of press time, a total of 21 bodies have been retrieved from the scene inlcuding four children.
Some 61 victims were rescued in which two were injured.
