Batang Kali landslide: SAR enters third day

BATANG KALI: The search and rescue (SAR) operation to look for nine victims still missing after Friday's landslide at a campsite in Gohtong Raya entered the third day today.

The SAR was suspended at 4am today and set to resumed about 9am.

A press conference is scheduled to be held later for the latest update on the operations.

On Friday, an early morning landslide struck near the Father's Organic Farm campsite at Gohtong Jaya.

The SAR was then launched following an emergency call and rescuers arrived at the scene within minutes.

Multiple agencies including the Emergency Medical Rescue Service from the Sentosa, Ampang, Pandan, Kota Anggerik, Kajang dan Andalas Fire and Rescue stations, as well as the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team, were involved in the SAR.

Around seven K9 tracker dog units were also deployed for the rescue efforts.

At least six excavators were used to dig up the debris to expedite their operation.

A total of 94 people were trapped by the landslide, with 24 confirmed dead. Nine individuals are still missing.
