KANGAR: Visitors of Wang Kelian View Points, a popular spot offering panoramic view from the height of 304 metres, will be charged an entrance fee soon.
State Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Commitee chairman Wan Badariah Wan Saad said the fee was not aimed at generating profit but rather to support maintenance aspect of the tourist attraction site.
"The charge levied on visitors to View Point Wang Kelian is very minimal and not burdensome.
"The fee can even help the state government to reduce the burden to cover maintenance costs in the area.
"In addition, this entrance fee can also ensure that all aspects of maintenance, including waste management, can be properly maintained," she told reporters at the side lines of the 15th Perlis State Legislative Assembly meeting here today.
According to a notice issued by the Perlis State Forestry Department earlier, local adult visitors are charged a fee of RM2 per person while foreign adult tourists are charged a fee of RM5 per person.
Local visitors aged 18 and below are charged RM1 per person while overseas tourists aged 18 and below are charged RM2 per person.
Children aged six years and below and people with disabilities (OKU) are exempted from the entrance fee.
Wan Badariah added that the state government will also provide a number of other basic facilities at Wang Kelian View Point soon for the comfort of visitors including by creating a 'glamping' site, referring to 'glamorous' concept camping site.
She said more plans were in the pipeline to provide more facilities to visitors to the site.
