KUALA LUMPUR: The Father's Organic Farm campsite on the Batang Kali-Genting Highlands road where the landslide occurred on Dec 16, is not listed as a critical slope.
The Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG) director-general Hisamuddin Termidi said: "JMG denies news reports claiming that the slope concerned was listed among the identified critical locations and that JMG listed Batang Kali as a critical location.
"It is untrue and must be stressed that JMG's critical slope monitoring scope is focused on settlement areas and natural slopes, and does not overlap with other stakeholders.
"The slope in the landslide tragedy is not listed as a critical slope under the JMG's monitoring."
In the 2.42am landslide on Dec 16, 92 people were affected at the campsite with 61 survivors.
Touching on the aspect of new settlements or new development proposals in hillside areas and near slopes, Hisamudin said it was a component in the planning permission which required a risk assessment.
"For risks involving geological landslide disaster, the developer needs to appoint a professional geologist registered under the Board of Geologists Malaysia to make an assessment," he said.
