Motorcyclist suffers burns in accident involving 5 superbikes

KUALA LUMPUR: A person suffered burns after being involved in an accident involving five high-powered motorcycles at Km26.5 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak (KLK) Highway near here today.

Selangor Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said his department received a call on the incident at 1.15pm.

"Six firemen along with a fire tender from the Selayang Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene.

"Upon arrival, they were informed of a fire involving a motorcycle that was completely burnt due to an accident.

"It was understood that five people were involved in the accident. One of them suffered burns," he said in a statement today.

He said that the victims were taken to hospital before the firemen arrived at the scene.

It was reported earlier today that traffic flow along the KLK Highway route leading to the federal capital was reduced to an 8km-crawl due to the road crash.

ANIH Bhd senior general manager Radzimah Mohd Radzi said the initial report received by the highway concessionaire said the accident caused the highway's fast lane to be congested.

"As of 2.30pm, the fast lane is still closed. Traffic is now crawling, stretching 8.5km from Km35 (from Genting Sempah-Gombak) to the accident location.

"Therefore we ask all of our highway users to be patient and careful when driving, as well as obey the instructions from officers at the scene," he said.

Earlier, pictures and video recordings of the accident went viral.
