KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Crime Index rate went down by 4.1 per cent with 50,819 cases recorded last year, compared to 52,974 cases in 2021.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said that efforts and initiatives to prevent and eradicate drug-related activities involving all types of narcotic offences continued to be intensified, with 141,346 cases and 163,740 arrests made last year, compared to 108,273 cases and 129,654 arrests in 2021.
"Arrests under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) also recorded a rise last year with 1,261 people compared to 1,186 the year before. This clearly proves that Police remain committed to wage war against the country's number one enemy.
"Apart from this, case statistics for commercial crimes showed a drop for the period between Jan and Dec last year with 30,536 cases recorded, compared to 31,490 for the same period in 2021," he said at the IGP monthly gathering at Dataran Kompleks 3, Bukit Aman here today (Jan 11).
Acryl said that the number of cases, arrests and total seizures pertaining to smuggling, migrants and the country's assets on the other hand showed an increase, 2,866 cases, 5,945 arrests and RM495.6 million in seizures recorded for the period between Jan to Dec last year compared to 2,811 cases, 4,840 arrests and RM445.9 million in seizures for the same period in 2021.
"Congratulations to all the police officers and personnel who succeeded in maintaining, keeping the momentum of excellence going and remaining committed to their roles while being responsible, which is in line with the Police Act (1967).
"I hope the level of excellence can be continued and maintained to improve the people's trust and belief towards our capability in maintaining the country's peace, harmony and public order," he said.
