Overwhelming demand for Kuih Kapit during Chinese New Year

KUALA LANGAT: The arrival of the Year of the Rabbit for the Chinese New Year celebration this year brings good luck to Kapit King Virallicious entrepreneur when the number of sales increased sharply following the overwhelming demand from customers from all over the country.

Noraisah Ahmad, 41, said she started accepting orders for kuih kapit (love letters) since last November and until now, 80,000 jars have been successfully sold nationwide.

"On normal days (outside the festive season), we are able to produce as many as 3,000 jars of kuih kapit a day.

"However, due to high demand from customers, we hired 10 part-time workers to help the 15 existing workers to increase production to 4,000 jars a day," she told Bernama.

Meanwhile, the former teacher said most of her Chinese customers would buy the traditional biscuits in bulk so that they can resell them to other buyers.

Noraisah started her business from home in 2014 using machines given by her late mother who previously ran the same business.

She now has a five-door shop in Sijangkang that opened in 2016 and has sales agents reaching over 300 people nationwide. – BERNAMA
