KUALA LUMPUR: Port authorities rescued a Bangladeshi child who was trapped inside a shipping container at Westport in Port Klang Wednesday night.
Sources said the child started knocking from inside the container to alert those outside and one of the port workers heard the knocks.
It was reported the vessel left Bangladesh on Jan 13.
A 56-second video showing the child being discovered had gone viral on social media.
In a weak state, the child immediately exited the container when the door was opened by the port auxiliary police.
Initial investigations revealed that the child was believed to have fallen asleep inside the shipping container and unaware it had been lifted and put on a vessel for the trip to Malaysia.
The child was taken to the hospital for a checkup and underwent documentation processes.
Sources also said the child had been sent home using the same vessel on Thursday.
