KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry believes in the level of integrity and objectivity of the teachers during the Teaching and Learning (PdP) process on topics related to politics and election, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
As such, Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said the teachers would not influence the political views of the students to support a certain political party.
"To a question on whether the teachers will influence (the students) or not, our reply is no and we believe our teachers.
"During PdP for the History subject, the teachers' job is to teach any topic objectively including on the election.
"Our teachers were trained with integrity and objectivity, hence it is unlikely for the teachers to influence students in terms of political beliefs," she said.
Lim was responding to an additional question from Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai) who asked about the measures being put in place to ensure that the teachers would not use PdP to influence the minds of students with certain sentiments so that they tend to vote for a particular party only.
Lim said the ministry had also provided the schools with supporting PdP materials to assist with the learning process.
