SHAH ALAM: Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd (Mydin) donated 5,000 Menu Rahmah food packets to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) students today.
Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said this involved students in five locations namely UiTM Shah Alam, UiTM Merbok (Kedah), UiTM Alor Gajah (Melaka), UiTM Jengka (Pahang) and UiTM Samarahan (Sarawak).
He said that Mydin sought help from the Social Welfare Department to identify students who were in need.
"We selected the locations (UiTM) that are near Mydin hypermarket since the food must be freshly cooked and delivered.
"We fully understand the rising cost of living due to the global situation. Therefore, we are taking this initiative to ensure underprivileged students can enjoy healthy and nutritious food," he said in a press conference after the Menu Rahmah donation ceremony at UiTM Shah Alam today.
On Feb 1, the government launched Menu Rahmah at RM5 each to provide the less fortunate with a balanced meal.
UiTM Board of Directors chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Raduan Che Rose said the initiative by Mydin should inspire other big companies to follow suit.
"We hope more big corporations will join in and help the less fortunate students at other higher institutes of learning.
