Govt to profile areas for targeted Menu Rahmah support

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will profile areas in need of the Menu Rahmah initiative and engage with vendors in those locations to offer it as a cost-effective alternative.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the government was committed to ensuring Menu Rahmah was offered in a targeted manner.

"We are exploring ways to support vendors without direct subsidies.

"We are considering providing an option for targeted vendors offering Menu Rahmah to buy goods in larger quantities through the Jualan Rahmah programme, based on criteria such as consistency in offering the menu," he said in his 2025 Budget winding-up speech in the Dewan Rakyat.

"Currently, we are profiling areas that genuinely need support and discussing with vendors to offer Menu Rahmah as a more affordable alternative."

He was responding to Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (PN-Putrajaya), who asked for updates on the Menu Rahmah initiative.

On Jualan Rahmah, Armizan said the government was also considering implementing it at selected markets, where all sellers would be involved in the programme.

"We are also looking into implementing this initiative in campuses, particularly to provide affordable items for students from low- and middle-income families. This initiative is currently being refined for implementation."
