2023 Budget: Cops to receive 2,100 body cameras for personnel

KUALA LUMPUR: The police force is set to receive 2,100 body cameras for use by its personnel.

Announcing this today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this forms part of the almost RM1 billion allocation for the Home Ministry to ensure peace in the country.

Speaking at the tabling of the 2023 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today, he said RM450 million will be allocated towards building a new Perak police contingent headquarters as well as staff quarters.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution had in December last year announced that RM30 million has been allocated for the procurement of body cameras for use by policemen on duty.

He had said it would improve the efficiency of the police force. He said the use of body cameras can serve as a tool for gathering evidence and improve the police's integrity when they are aware that they are being monitored, thus keeping any form of manipulation in check.
