KUALA LUMPUR: The government has pledged to accelerate infrastructure projects this year, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
During the tabling of the 2023 Budget, Anwar said the government aims to expedite the completion of repair works on 400 clinics in poor conditions and 380 dilapidated schools with an allocation of RM1.2 billion.
"It is unacceptable that the people today still have to face the issue of schools and clinics in poor conditions," he said.
He added the government has allocated RM2.7 billion for maintaining and upgrading federal roads.
"At the same time, to carry out minor maintenance, RM300 million will be provided specifically for G1 to G4 contractors.
"RM1.5 billion is also provided for the upgrading and building new rural roads and maintaining existing roads.
"RM50 million will be made available for immediate installation of street lights especially in accident prone areas.
"The allocation for the Malaysian Road Records Information (Marris) will be increased to RM5.2 billion, to maintain state roads."
