KUALA LUMPUR: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has rehabilitated 371 projects involving 46,139 private housing units, with a Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM44.59 billion this year.
"We have already exceeded last year's achievements. This task force has seen success even before the year ends," said Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu at a press conference for the Problematic and Abandoned Private Housing Projects Task Force (FTST) today.
She said that 348 projects received Certificates of Completion and Compliance (CCC), 17 delayed projects resumed, and six abandoned projects were restored.
The ministry is also considering extending the appointments of agencies like the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) and the Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) to expedite the recovery of 113 identified abandoned projects, Aiman added.
Addressing the causes of delays, Aiman explained that most problematic projects were due to internal issues faced by developers, particularly financial constraints, with some still recovering from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We assist by providing guarantees so they can seek help from financial institutions, instead of relying solely on public funds," she said, adding that assessing whether developers can resolve their financial challenges is part of the process.
Aiman added that the task force would be strengthened further and called for greater collaboration.
"I urge state authorities to work with us in addressing problematic and abandoned projects nationwide," she said.
