Police send extra assets, personnel to help in floods in Johor

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have mobilised extra assets and personnel to help with flood disaster management in Johor.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, who described the recent floods as "the worst since 2006", said police had sent 369 personnel to the state.

"The National Disaster Management Agency has been activated, and they have set up temporary relief centres, started search and rescue efforts and distribution of food," he said after the police excellence award ceremony at federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman today.

Acryl Sani also said the Chaah police station in Segamat, which had been inundated by floodwaters, was temporarily closed for repair works.

"The police quarters in the Segamat police headquarters are also affected by the floods. The Bahau police station is still open even though the gate has collapsed," he added.

Major parts of Johor were struck by floods following continuous heavy rain since late Tuesday.

In a video seen by the New Straits Times, floodwaters rose to almost knee high at the Chaah station.

Videos of the flood in Labis and Chaah in Segamat and Kahang in Kluang have also been making the rounds on social media, showing some roads and the Labis town being inundated by flood water.
