JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has risen slightly as of this morning, with 601 people from 163 families currently displaced, compared to 530 victims yesterday evening.
State Secretary and Johor Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani confirmed that all evacuees have been relocated to eight temporary relief centres across Kluang, Pontian, and Batu Pahat.
"The number has increased slightly compared to yesterday, which had seen a dip in numbers with 530 victims from 147 families housed in the same eight relief centres from three affected districts," he said in a statement today.
In Kluang, four centres remained open, sheltering 334 victims from 90 families. The rise in victims is primarily from the village of Sungai Linau, which saw 177 evacuees from 48 families.
Other relief centres in Kluang include Dewan Kampung Kolam Air (58 victims, 13 families), Dewan Terbuka Kampung Paya Palembang (68 victims, 18 families), and Balairaya Parit Haji Hashim (31 victims, 11 families).
In Pontian, 148 victims from 45 families are being sheltered, with 79 people at SK Seri Anom, 46 at SK Parit Markom, and 23 at Kompleks Muafakat Kampung Sungai Pinggan.
Batu Pahat remains relatively stable, with only one centre still in operation at SK Seri Bunut, accommodating 17 people from three families.
However, the situation is expected to improved, with no rain forecast today.
According to the Irrigation and Drainage Department, only Sungai Sembrong in Batu Pahat has reached the alert level at 3.23 metres.
Six other rivers, namely Sungai Kesang and Sungai Sarang Buaya in Muar, are being closely monitored as they remain at the warning level.
