JOHOR BARU: A total of 120 Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) substations (PE) have been put out of commission by floods in Johor since Wednesday.
State Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the affected PE were located in Segamat, Kluang, Muar, Batu Pahat and Kota Tinggi.
He said TNB had to cease electricity supply to the PE for safety purposes, not only for consumers' sake but also to preserve the utility company's assets.
"The floods that struck Johor this time not only damaged public property but also affected the electricity supply in some areas.
"Thankfully, to date, electricity supply at 70 PE have been resumed, while another 50 PE have yet to receive their full supply.
"Among the areas yet to receive electricity are areas in Chaah, Bukit Kepong, Yong Peng, Parit Sulong, Kluang, Endau, Ayer Hitam, Tongkang Pechah, Bukit Siput and Kota Tinggi.
"It is hoped that everyone will be patient. The hardships faced are regrettable," he said in a Facebook posting here today.
Fazli said TNB personnel and contractors are working around the clock to resume electricity supply, especially to temporary relief centres and important premises such as clinics and hospitals.
"I would like to thank TNB and everyone involved and pray that they safely carry out their tasks.
"To all the people of Johor, keep yourself and your families safe, and listen to the instructions and advice from the authorities. May Allah help us face this disaster, InsyaAllah," he said.
