Teen returns to school after recovering from severe electrical burns

BAYAN LEPAS: Mohd Dawisy Zarif Mohd Khairi, 13, who suffered severe burns after an electrical accident last year, has made a full recovery and has returned to school.

Dawisy Zarif was seriously burnt when he accidentally entered a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) substation in Taman Sri Bayu on Nov 16 last year to retrieve a ball.

Most of his body was burnt and he was placed in a medically induced coma.

His mother, Suhana Samsudin, 38, said the teenager was still adjusting to the life-changing incident.

"He went back to school last week. He was very excited to see his friends again."

She said her son's body was recovering, but he was struggling with the emotional impact of the incident.

She said he became more shy around people due to his scars.

"I am encouraging him to be more confident."

Dawisy Zarif has undergone more than six surgeries since the accident and still requires special care.

He has to wear protective clothing to protect his burnt skin.

Suhana said despite the challenges, her son was determined to live a normal life and had begun playing football again with his friends and twin brother.

She said her son told her that had he known of the dangers of entering the substation, we would not have gone in to retrieve his ball.

"I'm grateful for all the prayers and support we've received.

"It's been a traumatic and tough journey, but we're slowly moving forward.

"He's a fighter. I'm so proud of how far he has come."
