Muhyiddin: No, I haven't been arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has denied being arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

However, he said he had been called in to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

"I want to clarify that news that I was arrested on the golf course, as what is claimed by a news portal, is not true. Today, I was present at several meetings which has to do with the Bersatu annual general assembly which will begin this Friday.

"However, tomorrow I have been asked to go to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 11am," said Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman.

Muhyiddin did not say why he was being called to MACC headquarters, but Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na'aman had earlier told the New Straits Times that he was to have his statement recorded.

It was learnt that Muhyiddin has been summoned over the Jana Wibawa scandal.

Faiz said party members had also been asked to gather at the MACC headquarters at 10am tomorrow.

An online portal had reported earlier that the former prime minister was arrested while he was playing golf in Selangor.

The portal also reported that he would be charged tomorrow.

Sources, however, denied such claims.

The Jana Wibawa scheme was introduced by the government under Muhyiddin's administration to speed up project implementation and boost the country's economy during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The scheme was also intended to increase the capacity of Bumiputera/Malay contractors in the construction industry to be more competitive, resilient and potential.
