Youth group collects unsold Ramadan bazaar food to help needy

SEREMBAN: The Gema Malaysia Youth Organisation has launched an initiative to collect unsold food from Ramadan bazaars in the area and distribute it to those in need.

Negri Sembilan Gema chairman Mohd Safuan Mohd Fadzil said the programme aims to save good quality food from being wasted and to prevent food wastage.

He added that the programme is being carried out in collaboration with Ramadan bazaar sellers and involves 100 Gema volunteers.

"The excess food is distributed to those in need, including mosque congregations, madrasahs, orphanages, and the hardcore poor," he said yesterday.

The excess food collection activity covers several locations, including the Ramadan bazaar at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi, Ampangan, Senawang, Metropark Sri Sendayan, and Nilai.

Food collection will begin after Iftar (breaking of the fast), while distribution will take place between 8pm and 9pm.

"For example, in Paroi, there are two mosque congregations, and the recipients include the residents of Flat Casuarina, Rumah Pangsa Perdana Paroi, and two orphanages. This programme will be carried out until April 6," he said.
