Sivakumar: 2 MoUs signed by Malaysia in Cambodia will help boost manpower

KUALA LUMPUR: Two memorandum of understandings signed during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent trip to Cambodia will help bring more manpower into Malaysia.

Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar said the MoUs include training for workers from Cambodia , and efforts to help with their assimilation in the country of employment.

"We have signed two memorandum of understanding during my working visit with the prime minister to Cambodia that will help boost manpower.

"The two MoUs were to bring in foreign workers in the formal and domestic sector," he told a press conference at Wisma Perkeso here today.

He added that are currently 4,422 Cambodian foreign workers in the country with 926 of them working in the domestic sector.

"Although the number of Cambodian workers in the country is small, we hoped that with the signing of the MoUs, the number of foreign workers from Cambodia can be increased.

"These foreign workers will be given training and exposure in their country before entering Malaysia so that they can assimilate and work properly here thus preventing any untoward incidents," Sivakumar said.

He earlier attended the signing of the note of collaboration between the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) and Prisons Department in the effort to provide inmates and former convicts a second chance in employment opportunities.
