KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian marathon runner Mohd Syahidan Alias, 36, achieved a Guinness World Record by completing a full marathon under three hours and dressed in traditional dress, at the TCS London Marathon 2023 on Sunday.
Mohd Syahidan, who is known by the nickname of Edan Syah, shared his joy of his world record marathon in an Instagram post yesterday.
"Mission accomplished! We achieved the mission in below 3-hours as the Guinness World Record Holder for the Fastest Full Marathon (42.2km) in Traditional Malay Dress (Male)."
Edan finished the marathon in Baju Melayu (men's traditional Malay attire) with a time record of 2 hours, 49 minutes and 22 seconds, breaking his own marathon record.
Previously, he had set a record in 2019 at the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival in Australia for the fastest marathon run with a national flag costume with a time of 2 hours and 54 minutes.
His custom-made Baju Melayu was specially designed and created by local boutique Bulan Bintang, known for traditional Malay clothing.
Edan expressed his gratitude to Bulan Bintang for sponsoring his attire, on his Instagram account . "Thank you to @bulanbintanghq for your trust and opportunity to accept this 'out of the box' idea (completing the mission in Baju Melayu attire)," he added.
"We have done our best to make Baju Melayu great again. Thank you for your prayers and for supporting the journey. What's next?," Edan added.
In one of his Instagram posts, Edan thanked his supporters, known as Team Edan Syah, who had donated almost RM10, 000 to his campaign, the 'Bulan Bintang Road To London' in partnership with Team Livability UK.
