Pahang fitness trainer eyes Guinness World Record

JERANTUT: In an inspiring display of determination, Lipis-born fitness instructor K. Jey Prabakaran Thevar has shattered his own record for the longest non-stop cardio workout session.

Last year, the 27-year-old became the first Malaysian to be inducted into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) and the Influencer Book of World Records after completing 12 hours of non-stop cardio workout sessions.

On Oct 14, Jey Prabakaran not only set a new MBOR and Influencer Book of World Records after clocking 15 hours at a gym in Kuala Lipis but will get his name etched in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The youngest of four siblings, Jey Prabakaran said he utilised more than 20 gym exercise machines and equipment including the treadmill, dumbbell, cross trainer, cycling machine and barbell to set the record between 6.30am and 9.30am.

"Last year, after clocking 12 hours of non-stop exercise routines for MBOR, I set my target on two records namely the Asia Book of Records and world record books this year. I achieved 13 hours for the Asia Book of Records on June 11 and aimed for a new personal record for the Guinness Book of World Records....I have successfully set a 15-hour record.

"I have been training since the Asia Book of Records early this year as I realised that a drop in momentum will affect my performance and jeopardise my chances to secure a world record. I have been training under a strict routine for more than seven months and I am extremely happy for the new record," he said after receiving the MBOR and Influencer Book of World Records certificates at a resort here yesterday.

Jey Prabakaran, who is fondly known as 'Dr Kjey' described his 15-hour record breaking feat as arduous since he could not stop to rest but continued to drink water and eat by doing slow-paced sessions.

"I was only allowed to consume light snacks and drinks while on the exercise bicycle and treadmill, and allowed a few minutes to use the washroom. It was part of the requirements to get into the record books....I had to be focused on the routines so that I will not get distracted during the workout session," he said.

The youngest of four siblings, Jey Prabakaran, who now awaits the official confirmation by the Guinness World Records, said he has set his sights on breaking more records next year.

"After months of training, I will take a short break to spend time with my family and celebrate Deepavali. I am planning to celebrate my achievement by enjoying some biscuits, sweets and other festive dishes during Deepavali.....last year I did not eat any of the Deepavali snacks and dishes as I was on a strict diet," he said, adding his mother S.Sukunamalar, 66, and siblings have been his biggest motivation.

At the event, Jey Prabakaran received the MBOR and Influencer Book of World Records certificates from their representatives namely Mohamad Nazrul Hafizi and P. Tamilanban respectively.
