Malaysia's Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) to be launched on Monday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to launch the much anticipated Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) on Monday.

Malaysia will be joining 18 other countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, United Arab Emirates, Serbia, South Africa and Azerbaijan that have such centres.

Themed "Shaping the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Building a Better Future for All", the launch is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The establishment of C4IR will help accelerate Malaysia into a hub of global stakeholders' cooperation that would facilitate the development of better policy frameworks.

MyDIGITAL Corporation chief executive officer Fabian Bigar said the world has been rapidly evolving and developing and has witnessed a radical paradigm shift involving all sectors and industries.

"We need to ensure that we are able to drive our transformation to grow economic sectors and society.

"Thus, the establishment of the World Economic Forum (WEF)-C4IR is especially exciting as it puts the spotlight on the country's commitment towards prioritising technology as the key catalyst for economic growth and post-pandemic recovery, which is timely, and right on the heels of the second anniversary of Malaysia's National Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Policy," he said.

The government, recognising the need for a problem-solving approach to society's challenges during this disruptive revolution, has developed Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint and National 4IR Policy, a roadmap towards becoming a high-income nation and a policy that aims to equip the rakyat with 4IR knowledge, thus future-proofing the country to ensure agility to keep abreast with technological changes respectively.

MyDIGITAL Corporation has been mandated to ensure the initiatives under the roadmap and policy are carried through.

The aim is to benefit society, businesses and the public sector, which will also be tagged to performance indicators by 2030 such as increasing Malaysia Wellbeing Index to 136.5, increasing productivity by 30 per cent across all sectors compared to 2020 and to place the country in the Top 50 in Environmental Performance Index.

In achieving this, one of the priorities given is to the establishment of WEF-C41R.
