More Rahmah packages to be introduced

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will roll out more schemes under the Payung Rahmah initiative following positive responses from industry players in various sectors.

Its minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, said he was pleasantly surprised by the spillover impact of the initiative, describing it as "a light at the end of the tunnel".

"The people's economy can be helped and translated via realistic actions without using a high economic philosophy," he said when speaking at the Bicara Rakyat session at the Unity Government National Convention at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre here today.

One of the schemes under the initiative is the Rahmah Insurance package which is expected to be launched at the end of this month.

Salahuddin said although many parties disputed and questioned the Rahmah Initiative's sustainability; he insisted that its success was supported by industry players who wanted to help.

He explained that with the support of industrial players, there were more than 14,000 types of goods that people could buy at discounted prices of between three and five per cent.

"This means that when one spends at stores participating in the Rahmah Sales Package programme, one can save between RM20 and RM25 for each purchase," he said.

Salahuddin also believed the people's welfare would have a promising future, especially in franchises worth more than RM25 million last year.

"The digital process system can also be a catalyst for the people's economy, meaning those without work or regular income can still become millionaires or billionaires via the system we have implemented," he said.
