NUTP: Administrative work one reason for teacher burnout

KUALA LUMPUR: Clerical work and online data filing, among other administrative tasks, are among the top contributing reasons for teachers clocking in long hours.

The National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) president, Aminuddin Awang, said the issue has led to many (teachers) being unfocused as they attempt to carry out their roles effectively.

"Welfare-related issues include there being zero incentives for teachers who want to further their studies to the master's and PhD levels," said Aminuddin.

Malaysian Muslim Teachers Association (i-Guru) president Ustaz Mohd Azizee Hasan echoed Aminuddin's concerns.

"We want to stress that school administrators should refrain from interrupting teachers on their M1/M3/M5 break to ensure the wellbeing of their staff.

"This is in accordance with the 'happy students, happy teachers, effective schools and a prosperous nation' rationale introduced by the ministry," he added.

Based on a check on UPU website Azizee also said that the Teacher Salary Schedule (Grades DG29 to DG54) had yet to see any revisions since 2016 and that it was about time for a review to take place.
