DENGKIL: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry will consider the proposal to reduce the years of service required for teacher transfers.
She was responding to a proposal from the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP), which highlighted the issue last month.
"This matter has always been under our consideration because the welfare of teachers remains a priority," Fadhlina said after officiating a groundbreaking ceremony for two public schools in Bandar Gamuda Cove.
"Our policies and strategies already align with the considerations raised by NUTP," she added, adding that the ministry's responses in Parliament reflect its commitment to teacher welfare.
Also present at the event were her deputy Wong Kah Woh and Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
Earlier today, NUTP secretary-general Fouzi Singon told the ministry to expedite action, citing the recent case of teacher Izzuddin Izhar, known also as Cikgu Din, whose struggles underscored the need for policy reform.
Izzuddin's wife, Nur Atiqah My Yusoff, passed away yesterday after battling stage four cancer. Izzuddin, stationed at SJK(C) Ming Wok in Sarawak, had repeatedly applied for a transfer to peninsular Malaysia to be closer to her but faced multiple rejections.
His story gained public attention after he revealed on Facebook that he travelled from Sarawak to Kelantan every two weeks to care for his wife, finally securing a transfer in October after prolonged efforts.
