AYER KEROH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) to officiate the 52nd National Teachers' Day celebration.
His arrival was greeted by Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and several senior officials of the ministry.
This is Anwar's first visit to Malacca after being appointed as the Prime Minister last year.
This year's Teacher's Day celebration is themed "Guru Insani Pemangkin Generasi Madani" (Teachers as a catalyst for Madani generation).
The celebrations began yesterday with the McDonald's Inspirational Teacher Award (AGI) 2023, followed by a dinner organised by the state government and the presentation of several National Teacher Awards, last night.
Today, the Prime Minister will announce two more Tokoh Guru awards.
In a Facebook post today, Anwar wished all teachers and educators a Happy Teacher's Day.
"May 16 is a big date when we remember and call upon the services and sacrifices of teachers to build the nation and society.
"May the knowledge imparted humanise us and to the teachers who once educated me, I greatly admire your commitment and sweat. Thank you for the knowledge and devotion given," he said.
In conjunction with Anwar's visit to Melaka today, he is also scheduled to attend an Aidilfitri Celebration at the Tangga Batu parliament constituency at Dewan Bunga Tanjung, Tanjung Minyak, at noon.
