IPOH: A 48-year-old man was killed after an excavator he was in was crushed by a 10-tonne limestone at a quarry in Simpang Pulai here.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said police were informed of the incident by members of the public at 4pm today.
Yahaya said that initial investigations found that the man, who was inside the excavator, was crushed by the limestone weighing about 10 tonnes that had fallen from a height of about 25 meters.
"The incident is believed to have happened between 12pm and 1pm while the man was carrying out stone cleaning works. He was trapped in the cockpit of the excavator after being crushed by the stone.
"A team of firemen managed to extricate the body and he was pronounced dead at the scene by medical staff from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) at 6.45pm," he said.
He added that the body was taken to the HRPB's Forensic Unit for a post-mortem and the case has been classified as sudden death.
