KUALA LUMPUR: A man survived after the car he was driving was crushed by a fallen tree at Batu 16, Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Rawang, near the exit to the Latar Highway, yesterday.
Acting Gombak district police chief Superintendent Abang Kaderi Abang Waslu said police received a report of the incident at 1.20pm.
He said the victim was a 38-year-old man driving a sport utility vehicle.
"A team from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene and successfully removed the fallen tree. Fortunately, the driver did not suffer any injuries," he said in a statement today.
He added that investigations revealed the tree fell due to heavy rain and strong winds.
Meanwhile, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre reported that seven officers and firemen and a fire engine were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the call about the incident.
They used special equipment to cut the branches of the tree and safely extricated the victim.
The team also cleared the fallen tree from the roadway to ensure smooth traffic flow.
