KUALA LUMPUR: Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar made history after securing the 'FF1' vehicle number plate with a bid of RM1.2 million.
This made 'FF1' the most expensive licence plate ever issued for a single vehicle in Malaysia.
The registration number belongs to a new number sequence for Putrajaya.
Earlier today, Sultan Ibrahim granted an audience to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, who presented the plate number to him.
This was shared on Sultan Ibrahim's official Instagram page.
Loke, on his Facebook page, said Sultan Ibrahim agreed to pay RM1.2 million for the licence plate.
"For the record, RM1.2 million is the highest amount collected to date by the government for a single vehicle licence plate.
"This also brings the amount collected for the FF series to RM35.4 million," he said in a statement.
It was previously reported that the highest bid for the series was for the FF 8 plate, which fetched RM950,000.
A total of 34,032 people participated in the bidding process, which took place from May 14 to 19. Out of these, 8,348 bidders were successful in securing their chosen number plates.
Other notable expensive plates include FF 9 (RM911,999), FF 3 (RM639,000), and FF 2 (RM638,000).
Sultan Ibrahim is no stranger to winning bids for fancy number plates.
In 2016, he successfully secured the 'F1' licence plate with a winning bid of RM836,660.
He also previously acquired the VR46 plate with a RM55,002.20 on Feb 8, 2017.
On May 26, 2012, the Road Transport Department had stated that the most expensive licence plate in the country's history belonged to Sultan Ibrahim for the WWW1 plate, which fetched RM520,000.
