Centhra calls for continued support for refugees

KUALA LUMPUR:  In conjunction with this year's World Refugee Day, the Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy (Centhra) reaffirms its commitment to refugees displaced from conflicted countries.

The organisation plans to work hand in hand with governments worldwide to address the root causes of displacement and create sustainable solutions for refugees.

This year's World Refugee Day is themed "Hope away from home".

"While significant progress has been made to protect and support them, we must continue to prioritise their rights and well-being.

"In light of recent challenges, it is imperative that we strengthen our commitment to refugee's protection and integration," it said in a statement.

Centhra also called on governments worldwide to uphold international human rights and refugee law in ensuring that all refugees have access to protection, including the right to seek asylum, regardless of their nationality, religion or ethnicity.

It urged the governments to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment that promotes the integration of refugees into host communities; allocate sufficient resources to support humanitarian programmes and address the root causes of displacement of refugees as well as combat xenophobia and discrimination of refugees through education, awareness campaigns and community engagement.

Centhra is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting human-rights particularly in the context of refugees and forced migration.
