Segamat woman killed by 'flying' school roof

SEGAMAT: A 55-year-old woman was killed when the roof of a nearby school was lifted by strong winds and pinned her in her house at Jalan Tahang Rimau near here, yesterday.

In the 7.41pm incident, part of the roof of Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Seg Hwa was blown away and crashed into the house next door.

The roof landed on the kitchen, causing the roof of the house to collapse onto the victim.

Segamat Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Abd Rahim Rahmat said five personnel were despatched to the scene after an emergency call was made.

"The victim was extracted out of a pile of debris from the collapsed roof by the residents in the housing estate, before our arrival.

"However, the victim, identified as V. Mahadevi was pronounced dead by a medical officer at the scene," he said.

The body was surrendered to police for further investigation.
