Hamzah serious about taking action against those who spread news on IRB raid

KOTA BARU: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin will continue with his plan to take legal action against those who spread the news about his house being raided by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) officials.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general described such reports as slanderous.

"Of late, there are a lot of slanderous reports being made against PN leadership including on our chairman. I was also slandered by certain quarters.

"These people intend to discredit the image and reputation of leaders from the opposition fold," he said, in his speech at the state-level 'Pakat Pertahan' gathering here.

Hamzah, without mentioning names, said these people would keep on trying to muster up things on PN leadership to cover up for their own failures.

"InsyaAllah (God wiling), we will fight them one-by-one," he added.

Hamzah said he would proceed with legal action once the IRB and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) issues have been resolved.

He said he has instructed his office to gather all the information pertaining to the reports from both mainstream and non-mainstream news publications.

He insisted that he has never missed paying the income tax every year.

"I would like to explain here that I was a businessman before this, and only became an MP in 2008.

"I have spent thousands of ringgit to hire consultant to look at my income taxes," he added.

Hamzah also stressed that he has never taken any 'gambling-related funds' as claimed by certain quarters.

"MACC officers came to my house thinking that I have the so-called (gambling) money but there were no money in my house," said Hamzah, who is also the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) secretary-general.
