PEKAN: Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has been ranked in the range of 201-250 in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2023 (THE Asia) this year.
Making its debut in the rankings, UMP emerged as the ninth best university in the country and the highest-ranked institution in the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN).
UMP vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Yuserrie Zainuddin said emphasis on the quality of its programmes will continue so that graduates will be equipped with the relevant technical know-how to meet the needs of the country's main industrial sectors.
"The university will continue to capitalise on UMP's technological capabilities through the number of inventions as well as high-impact productions or new technologies.
"We will excel in research and innovation so as to benefit the community, and at the international level."
He also said that THE Asia rankings would support UMP's reputation as a world-recognised educational institution, in line with the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 agenda.
"UMP will continue to strengthen its strategic cooperation with industries, government agencies and the alumni, including international institutions, to further improve internationalisation initiatives.
"This can contribute to the national development agenda and allow us to compete globally."
Yuserrie expressed his gratitude to all UMP staff and students who have played a role in improving the institution's performance at the Asian level.
He hoped that their continued commitment would boost UMP's reputation and brand.
For THE Asia, performance indicators are grouped into five areas, namely teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); publication citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).
On June 7, UMP maintained the 301-400 range in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2023.
UMP, which marked its 21st anniversary in February, was ranked among 1,591 universities from 112 countries and achieved seventh best in Malaysia.
