GEORGE TOWN: Muslims across the country celebrated Hari Raya Aidiladha today with full gratitude.
The faithful gathered in mosques and surau this morning for prayers, followed by the slaughtering of cows and goats.
The meat was then distributed to the poor and needy.
At Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)'s main campus here, more than 1,000 of the campus community, including its international students and members of the public joined in the Aidiladha prayers, which added to the festive atmosphere.
The Aidiladha sermon was delivered by religious officer, Ustaz Nukman Ahmad Zakir; entitled "Hayati dan Syukuri".
USM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Mohamed called on the USM community to always be grateful and continue to maintain the wellbeing of the community.
"To all USM community, be grateful for what you have been blessed with and continue to appreciate the meaning of sacrifice despite whatever challenges you face," he said in his Aidiladha greeting to the campus community and the entire Muslim community.
For this year's sacrifice, 20 cows were slaughtered including a cow weighing 750kg and 20 goats.
Priced at RM11,000, the cow was of the Charolis breed.
Aidiladha is one of two major festivals celebrated by Muslims every year.
