Malaysian Education Development Plan enters last and most critical stage, says ministry

NIBONG TEBAL: The Malaysian Education Development Plan is approaching its final and most critical phase - wave three.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said during the third wave, the ministry would relook at the initiatives which had been implemented to be brought to a new plan or a new education policy framework.

"We are indeed heading towards the third wave, and all these initiatives are how we transform our national education system to be much better.

"I have also told the Dewan Rakyat recently that we are heading towards a new policy and national education framework. We have set up a committee to ensure that the soft landing regarding the plan can be continued based on initiatives which we have implemented," she told newsmen after the Qurban Perdana Nibong Tebal programme at Masjid Jamek Al Huda Sungai Bakau here today.

She was asked on a recent statement by International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) chairman Dr Maszlee Malik on the need to revamp the country's education system post-Covid-19 pandemic.

He made the statement following the high dropout rate among Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students.

The Education Ministry said recently that almost 30,000 students, who were eligible to sit for the exams, did not show up for their SPM 2022 examination, including private candidates.
