'Almost 2,000 Perak cops to assist in Penang, Kedah and Selangor polls'

IPOH: About 20 per cent of 9,700 police personnel in Perak will be deployed to assist in the upcoming state elections in Penang, Kedah and Selangor.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the quota would be handed over to the federal police for approval.

"We have handed over this 20 per cent quota to Bukit Aman and they will decide the exact number of policemen from Perak to be deployed to Selangor, Penang and Kedah."

Mohd Yusri was speaking in a press conference after attending Career Talk organised by the Perak Chinese Assembly Hall at SMJK Yuk Choy in Jalan Kuala Kangsar here, today.

Earlier, Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh announced that polling day for Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu would be on Aug 12, with early voting set on Aug 8.

Nomination day for all six states will be on July 29.
