GEORGETOWN: The Penang State Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) will conduct an investigation into allegations of a same-sex wedding proposal involving two women in Balik Pulau, here.
This follows the circulation of several viral photos on Facebook recently, showing two women, including locals and foreigners, displaying affection in a private lodging facility in Balik Pulau.
MAINPP chairman, Datuk Ir Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, stated that if such an event occurred, they would take legal action as the country prohibits lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) activities.
"We will gather more information to determine the authenticity of the circulating photos."However, if it is indeed true, action will be taken according to the prescribed laws," he said today.
Based on the viral information, the alleged proposal is said to have taken place last month and was attended by family members and close friends.
