KAJANG: A lorry driver has been hailed as a hero after he helped to foil the attempt of two suspects who were trying to escape the police in a chase yesterday.
Kajang Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd. Zaid Hassan said his officers received a call from one of their patrol car units that they were in pursuit of a silver pickup truck that escaped a police search and was driving against traffic.
A video that has since made rounds on Tik Tok and Twitter shows a two minute clip of police chasing down two burglary suspects in the middle of the Kajang SILK highway.
The suspect's vehicle then attempted a u-turn but was hit by an SUV before making a last grasp attempt to escape by ramming into the patrol car as one of the police officers went on foot to open the suspect's car door.
As the lorry driver saw that both officers had exited their vehicle, he cornered the suspect's truck so that they would not be able to escape while the officers went to apprehend the suspects.
The lorry driver received praise from netizens for being a good samaritan and helping the police stop what could have been a dangerous situation for road users on that day.

Merizenida commented, "They were lucky the abang lori was there or else, I think they would've escaped against traffic again."
The clip has garnered 608,000 views on Twitter and has gained over 90,200 likes on Tik Tok.
In a statement, Mohd. Zaid said investigations found that the suspects possessed equipment that could be used for breaking and entering and stealing cables.
They also tested positive for methamphetamine and have 24 prior records involving crime and drugs.
The suspects will be detained until Monday and police are investigating the matter under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
