Standard 3 pupil injured when ceramic toilet flush tank falls on her

IPOH: A Standard Three pupil from SK Perpaduan here was injured when a ceramic toilet flush tank fell on her.

The matter was confirmed by state Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah.

He said the incident happened on Tuesday, adding that the pupil suffered minor injuries and was treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB).

He added that the incident occurred when the pupil was using the toilet.

"The school then immediately contacted the pupil's parents before rushing her to HRPB. Based on the X-ray scan that was done, the girl did not have any serious injuries and was allowed to return home (on the same day).

"Following this incident, I hope the school periodically monitors the use of toilets because we don't want the same thing to happen to other pupils," he said.

Khairudin said this after launching the Rising Together Programme at the Perak Entrepreneur Development Secretariat Centre today.

He said he had also instructed the school to ensure that any upgrading work must follow specifications so that there are no cases involving students due to negligence on the part of the contractor.

Meanwhile, Khairudin said a total of 700 schools in Perak would receive allocations for toilet upgrading works as announced by the Education Ministry.

He said the announcement was made to ensure the safety and comfort of students.

"I was told that the upgrade work has already been coordinated by the state Education Department and it needs to be implemented before October this year.

"When this project is completed, we expect the state Education Department to form a task force to check the effectiveness and condition of the upgraded toilets," he said.

On July 11, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said schools under the ministry have been allocated RM70,000 each to solve the problem of toilet maintenance, adding that they have been given three months to ensure the cleanliness of their toilets.
