KUALA LUMPUR: The best of kawaii culture returns to the city with a myriad of engaging activities that fuses together Japanese art, dining, shopping, anime and cosplay.

This year, shoppers will be transported to the streets of Harajuku as the award-winning Tokyo Street celebrates its 12th anniversary here, today.

Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Katsuhiko Takahashi and his wife, Mami Takahashi were present during the ceremony held at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

"Tokyo Street has now become a brand, not only with local shoppers but with international tourists and the shopping mall industry in the region," said Pavilion Kuala Lumpur executive chairman Puan Sri Cindy Lim.

"It is so good to see everyone coming together on this happy occasion as the mall is also celebrating its 15th anniversary — a double celebration for all to enjoy!"

Lim said visitors can experience many captivating pop-ups and engaging activities scheduled.

"Thus, we are proud to announce our continued collaboration with AniManGaki for the second year in a row.

"Together, we will host a cosplay competition, AniManGaki idol competition, as well as runway shows and roadshows," she added.

International cosplay artist Knite aka @knitecoser made a special appearance at the celebration, enticing Malaysian fans with a meet-and-greet earlier.

Those who missed out on the opportunity are encouraged to visit on Saturday for another chance to get up close and see the star in person.

Tokyo Street is known to represent the blend of traditional elements and modern facets of Japan's dynamic culture and ambience.

Shoppers can also explore Japan Embassy's 'Seasons of Japan' exhibition between Aug 5 - 28 where a variety of Japanese dolls and decorations wil be on display.

Redemptions and special rewards also await those who capture and share memorable photos at Tokyo Street by tagging Pavilion Kuala Lumpur with the #HarajukuKawaii hashtag.
