PUTRAJAYA: The Accountant-General's Department of Malaysia is in the process of developing a system that will make it easier for the public to check their unclaimed money online.
This, Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said, was due to RM11 billion which has yet to be claimed by the public.
"There is about RM11 billion in unclaimed public money. Following this, the Department of Accountant is in the process of developing a system and online application (for the public to check).
"The collaboration (between departments and agencies under the Finance Ministry) will improve government's services to the people," he told a press conference after the launch of Customs Department iPatuh system in Putrajaya, today.
Meanwhile, MOF previously said there was a balance of RM11 billion in unclaimed public money as of March, this year.
It added the amount of unclaimed money being reclaimed as of May 31 this year totalled RM3.4 billion.
The ministry said the number of applications received by the Registrar of Unclaimed Monies doubled in the first five months of 2023 compared to last year's corresponding period, reflecting the rising public awareness about unclaimed money.
