GEORGE TOWN: Penang has no plans to declare a public holiday if the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional coalition wins the state election.
Caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said although PH was confident of securing 30 seats to form the state government, no public holiday would be given.
"I have no plans to give a public holiday if the PH-BN coalition wins in Penang," he said when met after visiting several polling stations here today.
Chow is in a straight fight with Perikatan Nasional's H'ng Khoon Leng for the Padang Kota state seat. Chow has held the state seat since 2008.
He said to ensure the target of winning 30 seats is reached, several factors had to be taken into consideration. This included a high voters' turnout.
"Besides a high voter turnout, PH-BN voters must support each and every candidate contesting to ensure victory is on their side," he added.
Prior to this, the Penang government decided not to declare today a public holiday for voting as today is already an off day for many workers.
