SHAH ALAM: The new Selangor Menteri Besar is expected to be sworn in on Friday.
It is understood that the name of the Selangor Menteri Besar candidate is likely to be presented to the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah tomorrow for His Majesty's approval.
It was previously reported that the unity government would retain Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as the Menteri Besar if the Pakatan Harapan (PH) -Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition won in the state elections.
This was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 18, when he officiated the state-level Sentuhan Agro Madani programme in Sekinchan
Anwar said that the decision to retain Amirudin was to ensure that he could continue to excel in administering the Selangor government.
However, there are rumors that Amirudin will be appointed as a minister at the Federal level and his place will be replaced by a new candidate from PKR.
Among the names being mentioned is Dr Fahmi Ngah, who won the Seri Setia state seat.
Previously, there were reports that former Paya Jaras assemblyman Mohd Khairuddin Othman was among the possible candidates, but he lost to the PN candidate from Bersatu, Professor Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri.
The PH-BN coalition succeeded in forming the Selangor state government after winning 34 out of 56 state assembly seats in the state election.
Of the 34, DAP won 15, PKR won 12, Amanah won five and BN won two seats, while PN won 22 seats through Bersatu with 12 seats and Pas with 10 seats.
