Elmina plane crash: Remains of delivery rider laid to rest in Sidam

SUNGAI PETANI: The remains of delivery rider Muhammad Hafiz Mohamad Salleh, 32, who was killed in the private Beechcraft 390 aircraft crash near Bandar Elmina on Thursday, has been laid to rest at Masjid Al-Huda Muslim cemetery in Kampung Sungai Jerung, Sidam here.

The van transporting his remains arrived at the mosque about 3pm, with police escort.

Hafiz's cousin Muhammad Akmal Zakaria, 33 led hundreds of congregants for the funeral prayers before the remains were taken to the cemetery for burial.

It was reported that his family claimed Hafiz's body at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital about 10am today.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan was reported as saying that at least one of the 10 remains involved in the aircraft crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam, would be released today.

Also present at the funeral ceremony were Bukit Selambau assemblyman Azizan Hamzah and Sidam assemblyman Bau Wong Aik.

In the Thursday afternoon incident, the six-seater Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) bearing registration number N28JV, crashed near Elmina during its approach into Subang Airport from Langkawi.

The crash killed all eight people onboard and two road users.

Also killed was Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman, Datuk Seri Johari Harun.

Hafiz, from Taman Sidam Kiri here, was the eldest of five children.
