Civil servants can now wear batik daily as govt turns up the heat at work

KUALA LUMPUR: Civil servants will now be allowed to wear batik to work daily as the government will increase temperatures at all its premises to ensure energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint.

Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, in a statement today, air conditioner temperatures at government premises will be maintained at 24° to 25° Celcius.

He said the cabinet's decision takes into account the country's climate along with the government's commitment to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by as early as 2050.

"The decision aims to provide comfort to civil servants to adjust to the change in temperatures, supporting energy efficiency initiatives as well as promoting the local batik industry," he added.

Nik Nazmi also said that the revised dress code would be extended to Parliament.
